  1. Review of cable procurement and installation Davide Piccolo INFN Napoli Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  2. On the sheld (20 cm) L L1 20 cm L6 L EASY side RPC cables status • HV, LV, DCS, Tsensorcables: • ready to be prepared with final connectors. • All the material (cables + connectors) are at • CPE factory in Milan waiting for cutting length. • Cable preparation prescriptions fixed. • Expected time to delivery complete cable is 3 weeks starting from the cutting length definition. LV cable DCS6 cable T sensor cables Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  3. RPC singal cable status • Cern launched an official tender end of 2004 • five competitors: • NOVACAVI 3,189 chf/mt • Tecnikabel 2,328 chf/mt • PLASTICAVI 1,919 chf/mt • Nexans 2,596 chf/mt • Intercond 3,040 chf/mt • Results of our time skew measurements (worst case): • NOVACAVI 1.1 ns • TECHNIKABEL 1.5 ns • PLASTICAVI 2.1 ns • Tests has been performed on two/three samples of 25 mt pieces long for each type • Request was fixed in t  1ns/25 mt • Work is in progress in order to choose the best solution Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  4. NOVACAVI 25 mt TEKNICABEL 25 mt From: Antonio Ranieri, Flavio Loddo PLASTICAVI 23 mt Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  5. Cable cutting length • Cutting length divided into 3 pieces: • radial length • periphery length • inside rack length Radial layout • The radial part has 4 symmetries form • the routing point of view • ZpL, ZpR, ZmL, ZmR; • ZpL e ZpR READY (sect 10, 11) • Symmetry broken for MB4: • every MB4 has his own symmetry • 30 % of the MB4 symmetries READY • inside Rack length near te end • We are waiting for the periphery length in order to cut the cables for the first 2 sectors Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  6. backplane 215 175 Cabling at LB side Option 1: LB crate mounted on the front side (backplane at 175 mm from front) Option 2: LB crate mounted on the back side (backplane at 600 mm from the front) Rack plant back Cable entrance LB crate Air flow front Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  7. LB crate position Option 1: crate on the front side very difficult to cable and big amount of cables on the path of the air flow Front of LB crate Option 2: crate on the back side more easy to cable no cables on the path of the air flow, But front side of the LB crate at a distance of 600 mm from front side, we have to close the front for air flow problem and create a path for front cables, we have to modify the crates to move backward the backplane (is not an issue) Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  8. Fixation tool Electronics Review 12-05-2005

  9. Conclusions • HV-LV-DCS-Tsens cables almost all material is ready. We are waiting for cutting length • SGN cable: work on progress for the tender. Connector choosen (BERG or ODU connector). A preproduction of cable preparation for the barrel (157 cables for sector test) will be done at CPE • Cable fixation tool/LB crate : invetigating several solutions. We have drawings. Some proptotype will be prepared in Napoli and we will decide the best solution after tests on complete crate inside the rack. Electronics Review 12-05-2005
