NEA Teacher Report - 5 Trends Trend #2:  The work of teachers is being transformed. • Teachers are learning new skills and sharpening the ones they've already developed. • More than 75% of all teachers participate in professional development related to their grade or subject area, using technology in the classroom and curriculum development. • Teachers are enriching their lessons with technology. • For teachers with access to school computers: • 73% say they use the computer regularly for instructional purposes • 59% use the Web to enhance classroom lessons. SpeakUp 2006 Teacher Data • Over half of teachers say technology: • Has had the largest impact on their teaching and instructional support activities • Helps them engage students in learning • Over half say their lesson plans are richer and contain timelier, more accurate information because of their access to the Internet. • 75% say that technology use in schoolwork has resulted in increased student performance and achievement. • Teachers believe that more computers in the classroom are the tools with the greatest potential for improving student achievement. Other promising tools include: • laptops for students to use at school • tools to help parents and teachers communicate • a useful schoolwebsite.
