Remedial Reading at Riverside City College • Reading Skills I • Five hour per week course • Prerequisite to Reading Skills II • Reading Skills II • Five hour per week course • Prerequisite for Reading Skills III • Reading Skills III • Three hour per week course • Graduation requirement
Reading as a Graduation Requirement at Riverside City College • Students who tested in below college level: (formula, multiple measure) • “C” grade or better in Reading Skills III • Demonstrate reading competency on the Nelson Denny • Matriculation appealed the requirement on the following basis: • Students who had met the GE requirements to graduate were not being allowed to do so • Students who had successful passed English composition were not meeting competency on the Nelson Denny
Reading as a Competency at Riverside City College • Students who test in below college level reading: (assessment score rather than a multiple measure): • Counselors advice: • Take reading • Not to take reading • Should a student receive a grade lower than “C” in any general education class, Reading Skills III is required in order to graduate • Show reading competency on the Nelson Denny
