  3. Counselors – What we do • Work with students in a variety of areas • Stress • Family/friend concerns • Classroom support • Graduation Tracking – Transcripts • Scheduling • Post Graduation planning • Co-curricular support

  4. Create the life you want • Spend a few minutes thinking about your future. Discuss with a partner: • What are some things you’d need to make that happen? • How can you get there? • What is standing in your way?

  5. Barriers to School Success • Things that get in your way either at school, at home, or anywhere else which limits your maximum potential • Some we won’t focus on today • Physical and Mental health issues • Drug or alcohol use • Family or home problems • Relational stress or issues • Bring issues like this to your counselor for support

  6. Communication • Speaking directly to teacher • Ask for time that they can meet to talk • Make appointment • Show up on time • Discuss the concern • Ask questions until you get the help you need • Rephrase their answer to check for clarity • Follow up with them later • Emailing • Teachers email addresses are available on Student Vue • Use same process with a back and forth conversation

Practice • With a partner, take turns being the teacher and the student • Use the steps as a guide • Ask for time that they can meet to talk • Make appointment • Show up on time • Discuss the concern • Ask questions until you get the help you need • Rephrase their answer to check for clarity • Follow up with them later
