  1. Understanding the Pennsylvania School Performance Profile An Overview

  2. Purpose • The PA School Performance Profile is designed to: • Provide a building level academic score for teachers as part of the Educator Effectiveness System • Inform the public of the performance of each school, comprehensive career and technical center, cyber charter and charter school in Pennsylvania • Provide parents and taxpayers performance measures for the school/district of residence, neighboring schools/districts and schools/districts across the state

  3. Purpose • For LEAs, the School Performance Profile will serve multiple purposes: • Inform and guide goal setting, resource allocation, and targets for improved student achievement • Communicate performance to various constituencies • Compare performance to other schools • Encourage implementation of best practice

  4. The PA School Performance Profile • Will provide a quantitative academic score based upon a 100-point scale for Educator Effectiveness (teacher evaluation) ratings. • Scores are calculated based upon defined weighted data elements. • If a school has insufficient data to calculate a representative score, the display area will reflect that circumstance and adjust total points accordingly.

  5. Academic Performance Score • The score for a school is based upon multiple measures which define high performing schools. • Many data elements are combined to create the academic score. These elements are categorized into five areas.

  6. Data • Using the 2010-2011 data, school scores across the Commonwealth would break down as follows: • Approximately 14% of the schools scored 90 or higher. • Approximately 64% of schools scored 70 to 89.9 • Approximately 15% of scores are between 60 and 69.9. • Approximately 7% score below 60. • Reward, Priority, and Focus Schools • 90 and above • 70-89.9 • 69.9 and below

  7. Demographic Fast Facts • District and School • Demographics • Career and Technical Center • Supporting Intermediate Unit • Percent Enrollment by Ethnicity • Percent Enrollment by Historically Low Performing Students • Link to Supplemental Reports

  8. Educator Effectiveness: The Connection • Act 82 of 2012 called for the creation of a revised system for gauging educator effectiveness. • That system is multifaceted and the various components will be implemented over several years with full implementation for the teacher component occurring during the 2015-16 school year.

  9. School Performance Profile School Building Data: All teachers and principals in a building will receive a building level score based on multiple measures including achievement results, progress towards closing the achievement gap, growth, promotion/ graduation rates and other measures.
