  2. Existing Conditions • 54th Street – Westfield Boulevard • 50 feet wide • 40 mph speed limit 38th Street – 54th Street 36 feet wide 35 mph speed limit • Westfield Boulevard – Kessler Boulevard • 60 feet wide • 40 mph speed limit • Traffic Volume = 25,000 – 30,000 veh/da

  5. 54th Street Traffic Signal Traffic Signal appears to be warranted by volume and accidents.

Pedestrian Recommendations • Sidewalks (54th Street – Westfield Boulevard) • Provide 6-foot sidewalk (west side) • Widen existing sidewalk (east side) • Separate sidewalk from curb (both sides) 57th Street Crossing Consider Flasher Consider Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon • Sidewalks (Crossing Streets) • Provide 6-foot sidewalks where feasible • Give priority to 56th Street (safe routes to school)

Traffic Signal Progression • Potential approach to speed control on Meridian • Current progression speed = 40 mph • Scenarios investigated: 30 mph, 35 mph, 40 mph • Time-space diagrams provided through DPW • Additional signal at 43rd suggested to reinforce 38th Street to Kessler Boulevard progressive speeds between 38th and 46th

Major Conclusions • Retime signal system for 35 mph throughout • Install traffic signal at Meridian & 54th • Consider traffic signal at Meridian & 43rd • DPW agreed to 4-way STOP at 54th & Central • Install sidewalks on Meridian north of 54th • Install sidewalks on cross streets (especially 56th) • Install motorist information speed signs
