  3. Databases and Systems • IBM MVS - ADABAS • CASPIA - Computer Aided System for Processing International Applications. • HP/UX - ORACLE (2 databases: Published and All) • eDossier. • Systematic COR. (e.g. forms IB301) • Patentscope (electronic publication and search) • Specific COR (e.g. IASF).

  4. CASPIA Changes • New IPC validity file (Advanced; Common but not CORE only). • New fields for IA_IPC table Inventive; Version Date; Classification Status; Source. • Dual screen validation (7 and 8) • Data synchronization ADABAS to ORACLE adapted

  5. ORACLE system changes • New IPC validity file. • New IA_IPCR table • Error Report for ISAs • Internal (All) to External (Published) database synchronization adapted.

  6. Validity File Processing • Validate validity file. • Ensure ADABAS and ORACLE files in synch. • Upload to ADABAS and ORACLE • Mark in error newly obsolete IPC codes for any unpublished IAs

  7. MCD Backfile Reclassification • Received • 2,739,446 IPC codes for 1,041,841 IAs • Processed • 2,729,161 IPC codes for 1,037,137 IAs

  8. MCD Backfile Reclassification • Exceptions • 68 unknown IAs • 3 unknown WO Numbers • 2 Invalid IPC codes • 15,559 Missing - published pre-2006 with ISR

  9. Frontfile Reclassification • Reclassifying Version 7 to 8 • Scope • A2s published in 2005 (Initial Pub. Without ISR) • published in 2006 • Unpublished IAs

  10. Frontfile Reclassification • Results • Processed 84,047 IPC codes for 37,949 IAs • Outstanding (pub. With ISR after 1 Jan 2006) 8,490 IPC codes for 3,015 IAs

  11. Ongoing Issues with ISRs • Absence of inventive indicator • Duplicate codes • Invalid codes (though valid in IPC 7)

  12. Publication • Patentscope - WIPO internet resource for publication • Original publication differs from current bibliographic data • Merged IPC searching facility • new IPC codes • old IPC codes where not yet reclassified • Position indicator dropped - not in MCD file • Search Types • IC - IPC codes • ICI - IPC code as Inventive • ICN - IPC code as non-inventive http://www.wipo.int/patentscope

  13. Future Work • Next MCD Backfile expected July. • Check on exception cases. • Communicate Frontfile Reclassification list to EPO and others (ST.50) • ISAs to reclassify 7 to 8 IAs published 2006
