  1. A PRESENTATION AT THE KENYA MISSION NETWORK EETING (11th-14th February 2014) IN NAKURU BY THE REV THEGU MUTAHI-PCEA DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL

  2. IN ABSENCE OF SILVER AND GOLD WHAT CAN PCEA OFFER?

  3. PARTNERSHIPS • In order to understand what PCEA can offer, it is important to underline what church partnerships entail. • The best foundation of any partnership is friendship that gradually progress to different levels. As that friendship evolves, it brings along some of the following four components: • sharing (spiritual and or temporal ideas) • communication (that is sharing formal and informal information) and visits. Such communication must be guided by respect and trust • support (moral and material). • discipline • From the above, it is therefore obvious that silver and gold (material) are but one component of church partnerships. It is a means to an end rather than an end in itself. • We therefore look at what PCEA can offer in line with the above components.

  4. Sharing (spiritual and or temporal ideas) • As indicated in the Best Practices brochure, Spiritual engagement must be the starting point. It involves enriching one another with: • prayers • sermons • spiritual literature and materials

  5. Communication and Visits • Communication ensure friendships flourish as in them information is shared. • This is done using all mediums available like face to face encounters, telephone calls, letters, emails, social media etc. • Communication is very helpful particularly if there are activities that are ongoing for instance, a partnership project. Information about the same should be shared in a timely and factual way. • Face to face visits can be expensive and time consuming but when opportunities arise, they must be maximized.

  6. Support (Moral and Material) • Moral support is required across all partnerships since all humans have emotional needs. • Partners should always be there for one another in times of joy and in times of pain. • As observed, the golden words of ‘please’, ‘sorry’, ‘welcome’ and ‘thank you’ impact on all of the human race. • It is not always about tangible things as scriptures teach us (Amos 5:21-25; 1 Corinthians 13: 1-3; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5) but about being there fore the other • Material on the other hand is not about size of the gift of the giver but about the size of the giver of the gift; the size of the heart.

  7. Discipline • Since this partnership is about institutions, there is need to respect any existing structures and traditions. Each partner must communicate early to the other about the same. • In our context, there should be proper coordination of mission work from a central point. This does not mean micro-management. • Formulation of structured constitutions, covenants, memorandums of understanding and adherence to the same • Institutionalization of all partnerships to check one man shows

  8. CONCLUSION • From the above, it is hence clear that PCEA has components to offer in the absence of gold and silver. • Just as Peter and John had something impactful to offer to the sick man (Acts 1:1-10) , PCEA has its job well cut out.
