  2. Coaching Philosophy • We are building a top regional 6A program • In doing so, we look to teach these athletes necessary “life skills” • Show responsibility • Push through the hard times • Be respectful • Get in shape

  3. Meet the Coaches • Head Coach – Asheley Bell • Assistant Coach- Clayton Tillery • Assistant Coach – Kevin Lloyd

  4. What should the athlete be doing right now… • Turn into main office: • Complete Physical • Transportation Waiver • Concussion Form • Weight Training (Tues/Thurs)-with Coach Z until the first week of practice – Beginning Sept. • GET IN THE WATER

  5. Parent Responsibility • Parents are expected to be an integral part of this team..however… COACH vs. PARENT • Chain of command..communication • We need support in order to make this a successful venture….VOLUNTEER! • Push your athlete to work harder. • Do not allow them to miss practice or make excuses.

  6. Practice Info (Oct. 21st) • Midway – Swim Atlanta (SWAT) • Morning Practices • Arrival: 6:00am (dressed and ready) • Enter through main entrance • Pick up at 7:30 am – dressing in locker room at West • West Forsyth High • Tuesday/Thursday: weight training after school • Saturdays: In water or Dryland Independently

AttendancePractices and Meets • Year-round swimmers, outside sport athletes • Notice should be given to the coaches by the swimmer or parent via phone or email • Meets – required in order to letter • Notification of meet absence due 1 ½ weeks (Wednesday) before the meet **A detailed outline of attendance and lettering requirements can be found in the handbook**

  8. Event Cancellations • In the event that Forsyth County Athletics, WFHS Athletic Department, and/or WFHS Administration forces the cancellation of athletic events, West Forsyth Swimming (inclusive of coaches, athletes and parents), will comply with these instructions. • Disregard for said instructions by athletes and/or parents will immediately result in a swimmer’s removal from the team and possible banned from athletic participation at West Forsyth High School

  9. Contacting the Coach • Excused Absence • Athlete is “sick”. • Tired is not sick • Too much homework is not sick** • Family Emergency • In either case, Coach needs to be notified via cell phone. Call and leave message. Text with athlete name. • Coach Bell (770) 367-1730

  10. Transportation Rules • Coaches can not transport athletes. • Buses will be used to transport swimmers to and from meets. NO EXCEPTIONS. • Will need parental help with moving of food and supplies • Chaperones on overnight trip

  11. TIME TRIALS • We will have TIME TRIALS for all NEW ATHLETES • This will be so we have a basis of times for the first meet entries • All swimmers should attend! Team breakfast afterwards!

  12. How Much Will It Cost Your Child to Swim? • $550.00 – first installment due Nov. 1st • Establish fee installments: See Coach Bell • Items included in fees: • Transportation fees, team bag, team uniform, t-shirt, team caps (2), swim bag (new athletes), PRACTICE FACILITY FEES, food, awards, State items, community coach, swim suit • Added Expenses: • Spirit wear • Team suit, goggles, etc. (required) • $ for food during travel • End of season banquet • Fundraise for Savannah meet

Divers • 12/13 – Freshman Hanna King placed 7th overall at 6A state meet • Currently we would like to build this group! • Some diving over laps swim meets but other meets do not- swimmers can dive • See me for flyer information • Practice is at Cumming Aquatic Center Wednesday/Sunday afternoons

  14. Savannah Trip • Chatham County Invitational • Dec. 13th – 15th • Hotels, Busses, etc. • Team Bonding Activity

  15. Fundraising • Team Fundraisers • Spirit Wear (7% of team purchase comes back to the team) • West Spirit Items – pay for trip • Sponsors – ALWAYS looking for sponsors • Swim-a-thon • Football game table

  16. Hosted Meets • West Multi-team Meet • West 2nd Annual Invitational • Timers, Concessions, Meet Set up, etc. • We cannot do it without you!!

  17. Team Bonding • Bon fires • Holiday Gathering • Pasta Dinners • Overnight Meet • Saturday off ‘trips’

Where can you find important information? www.wfhsswim.com • Check throughout the season for announcements and updated information • Handbook, important forms, coach contact information • Calendar updates and announcements will be made via email and also posted • If you have any photos from meets, please send them to be posted

  20. Updated Information Needed! • All new AND returning swimmers MUST fill out a swimmer information sheet • Please verify all phone numbers and NEATLY write out email addresses • We will be utilizing a phone tree in case of emergency

  22. Before you leave tonight…. • If you are new, introduce yourself to us! • Suit sizes to Coach Bell / warm up sizes to Coach Bell • Sign up for a committee • Update your contact information
