GET REGISTERED • Attain USA-S Non-Athlete Membership - $65 per year • Attain STSI Membership - $10 per two years • Expires Dec 31, even numbered years • Entering on an even year (2014) - $5 • Pass Level II Background Check - $39 • www.usaswimming.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=1678&Alias=Rainbow&Lang=en • Good for two years: Renewal - $19 • Complete Athlete Protection Training (APT) - $0 • www.usaswimming.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=2193&Alias=Rainbow&Lang=en • Renew every year • Attend Stroke & Turn Judge/Admin Official Clinic (or 1 on 1)

TAKE THE TEST • Pass Appropriate USA-S Tests • For Stroke &Turn • Stroke and Turn/Timer Test • For Admin Official • Administrative • Timing Judge • Timer • Clerk of Course Tests • http://www.usaswimming.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=1510&Alias=Rainbow&Lang=en • Must be completed with in 90 days of clinic • Open book!

  4. SEND AN EMAIL • Send email to STSI Officials Chair and Officials Registrar • Full Name • USA-S membership number • Phone (with area code) • Desire to acquire position as Stroke and Turn Judge Trainee or Admin Official Trainee • Trainee status good for 8 months

STROKE AND TURN TRAINEE • Stroke and Turn certification • 10 sessions, across at minimum 3 meets • Direct supervision of fully certified officials • Half of sessions at USA-S Sanctioned, Approved, or Observed meets • Sessions will be entered into OTS by Meet Referees • Trainees should keep own log as a backup • Meet Referee should sign the trainee’s log for each session • Once requirements met: • Send email to STSI Officials Chair and Officials Registrar: • Full name • USA-S membership number • Phone (with area code) • Request certification as Stroke & Turn Official

ADMININSTRATIVE OFFICIAL TRAINEE • Administrative Official certification • 6 sessions, across 2 meets • High School Dual meets are not accepted • Sessions will be entered into OTS by Meet Referees • Trainees should keep own log as a backup • Meet Referee should sign the trainee’s log for each session • Once requirements met: • Must be recommended by at least one currently certified Admin Official AND a separate individual who is either a Meet referee or an Administrative Referee • Send email to STSI Officials Chair and Officials Registrar: • Full name • USA-S membership number • Phone (with area code) • Names of two individuals recommending you • Request certification as Administrative Official

REIMBURSEMENTS • USA-S registration fee is not reimbursed for new officials • Each subsequent USA-S registration is reimbursed 100% providing you have met the minimum participation requirements for the preceding year • Background check is reimbursed if: • Once you have completed training and are certified as a Stroke and Turn Judge or Admin Official • Must pass the background check

  8. Dress Code and Appearance • Normal deck uniform in STSI is white polo shirts over khaki pants, skirts, Bermuda-length shorts, or capris • Alternate is white polo shirts over navy blue • Check meet information • Prelim/Final meets usually: • White over khaki – Prelims • Navy over khaki – Finals • Unless otherwise noted, shorts are not appropriate for finals • Jeans, “short” shorts or skirts, and flip-flops are never appropriate! • All-white tennis or gym shoes should be worn for all meets • White Crocs are acceptable, but not recommended
