Intro to Native Florida Flowers • The beautiful flowers of Florida inspired Ponce de Leon to name the area after the “Feast of Flowers” celebration in Spain. • The abundance and variety of flowers in South Florida add color to our yards, gardens, and even foods! • With its subtropical climate, Florida is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and colorful flowers. • Students will closely examine the various flora found throughout Florida and choose one native or naturalized flowering plant species to create an artowork.

  3. Requirements: • Choose one flower, and practice careful observation. Be sensitive. Draw what you see. • Draw the plant: flower/leaves/stems big, using the whole page, and paying attention to details: • Shape • Color • Proportions • Details

  4. Choose one Medium to work with: • Drawing: • Colored/graphite pencils or ink only. • Collage: • Flat, 2-dimensional only • Mixed media such as fabrics, paints, pencils, markers, crayons, and recycled materials may be used. • Please do not use any plant material.

  5. Other Requirements • Include a labeled floral diagram • A labeled floral diagram is a scientific drawing depicting a flower and showing/labeling its major parts.
