These forms of government place the importance of the nation above the importance of the individual! They challenged the idea of democracy.

  • “Man of Steel”
  • Stalin was appointed general secretary of the Bolshevik party during the Russian Revolution of 1917
  • Is appointed leader after Lenin’s death in 1924
  • Stalin was suspicious, cruel, ruthless and tyrannical
  • In 1939 Stalin made a pact with Germany to split Poland, in 1941 Germany invaded the Soviet Union.

  • Theory created by Karl Marx during the Russian Revolution of 1917.
  • Is a classless, moneyless, and stateless social order structured upon the common ownership of all means of production.
  • The theory is that everyone pools their resources and labor to evenly distribute everything.
  • The Good: basic needs are met, and everyone has a job, house, and health care.
  • The Bad: Lack of choice, no reward, everything is the same.

  • Elected Prime Minister in 1922
  • Organized the Fascist party, “Claiming efficiency and order,” to become powerful.
  • Invaded Ethiopia in 1935, stating “A country is nothing without conquest,” eventually gaining control of N. Africa.

    • Protection against Communism and Capitalism
    • State is bigger then the individual

  • 1933, appointed Chancellor of Germany under the Nazi party platform.

  • Nazism emphasized racism (National Socialism).
  • The belief that the Aryan race (German) was superior to all others. “MASTER RACE”
  • Nazism considered class based society as enemy and stood for unifying the racial element.
  • Instilled a hatred of Jews - “Anti-Semitism.” Blaming the Jewish people for all German problems
