  4. Functions: • Chelicerae – contain fangs used to stab and paralyze prey with venom. • Pedipalps – grab prey • Spinnerets – Organs that contain silk glands, force silk through these. • Book lungs – Used for respiration (O2 enters through the spiracle.

Functions continue: • Malpighian tubules – For excretion of metabolic • wastes. • Chelicerate groups: • Horsehoe crabs • Sea spiders • Arachnids – include spiders, scorpions, mites, • ticks and chiggers. • Adaptations shared by arachnids: • Waterproof cuticle • Book lungs • Malpighian tubules • Spiracles
