  2. And reality … Specific oil injection (22bar) to balance axial forces, Need to send more oil than pass through to screws ! Major finding: the screw compressor (P8, oil filters clogging mid June) was found damaged, with bearings showing exceptional stress About 35’000 hrs, bearings calculated for 70’000 hrs Inlet (4bar) • Similar case than P4_Xmas: • Series problem ? • Too much axial force ? Confirmed by observations on oil circuit => Decision to treat similar compressors a.s.a.p Outlet (20bar) LHCCryo - TechStop July 2011

  3. Compressor station of LHC 18 kW@ 4.5 K Bldg: 15 x 45 X 9 Pinput : 4.5 MW Cool: 500 m3/h Noise: 105 dBA Pipe & fittings redone with larger diameters P8(1) done this Tech Stop, 2nd to factory, P4(1) & P18(2) done in shadow of P8 recovery, P6 to be done latest at Next Tech Stop LHCCryo - TechStop July 2011
