  4. Metrolink provides service efficiently

  5. The Metrolink Network and Southern California’s Population and Employment • 6.9 million people (28% of the 5-county population) live within three miles of a Metrolink station. • 3.2 million jobs (30% of the 5-county total employment) are located within three miles of a Metrolink station.

  6. Better access is critical to support Metrolink ridership and to provide value for the Southern California’s residents • Transit is the primary station egress mode, but accounts for only 8% of station access • 23% of Metrolink riders have a car available at both their origin and destination stations • Walking and biking account for 6% of station access modes and 20% of station egress modes Source: Metrolink 2010 Origin-Destination Survey

  8. Local cities and member agencies have supported the development of a park-and-ride system for Metrolink About 30,000 parking spaces at Metrolink stations, most of them free Parking Capacity (April 2013)

  9. More than half of all station parking is at or near capacity

Metrolink serves a high level of low-income riders who need better station access % Ridership by Income Class (HHs less than $50k) • SCRRA serves a disproportionately high level of low-income riders, given the percentage of low-income HHs in the region • ~29% of riders on Metrolink come from <$50k HHs, while 43% of HHs in the region are from the same economic class • Just 4% and 19% of riders on VRE and MBTA come from low income HHs • Caltrainalso serves a high level of low-income riders, VRE MBTA Caltrain Metrolink Rail System (% of Riders from <$50k HHs) Rail Region (% of <$50k HHs in Region Rail Serves)

  11. As a Joint Powers Authority of 5 member agencies (Metro, OCTA, RCTC, SanBAG, and VCTC), Metrolink has a limited role in Station Access compared to station cities and other transit systems
