noise controls for underground mining

SOURCE PATH RECEIVER. . . . . . . . NOISE EXPOSURE CAN BE REDUCED BY: . APPLYING CONTROLS TO THE SOURCE (S)BLOCKING THE PATH (S)ENCLOSING THE RECEIVER. FLIGHTS CAN BE ISOLATED FROM PAN / CONVEYOR. WEAR STEEL. VIBRATION DAMPING MATERIAL. . . . . . . . FLIGHTS ARE HELD IN PLACE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN.

    1. NOISE CONTROLS

    2. SOURCE PATH RECEIVER AS IN ALL NOISE CONTROL PROBLEMS: THERE IS ALWAYS A SOURCE (S) A PATHS (S) THAT THE NOISE TAKES AND A RECEIVER (S)AS IN ALL NOISE CONTROL PROBLEMS: THERE IS ALWAYS A SOURCE (S) A PATHS (S) THAT THE NOISE TAKES AND A RECEIVER (S)

    6. THE MINED MATERIAL LAYS BETWEEN THE WEAR STRIPS AND FURTHER HELPS TO REDUCE THE SOUND

    7. VENTILATION FANSSHOULD BE KEPT ISOLATED FROM FACE AREA THIS PRACTICE SHOULD BE UTILIZED WHEREVER POSSIBLETHIS PRACTICE SHOULD BE UTILIZED WHEREVER POSSIBLE

    8. Fan Silencers Should be Inspected and Cleaned as Necessary IN ADDITION TO REDUCING THE SOUND LEVELS ASSOCIATED WITH AN AUXILIARY VENTILATION FAN A CLEAN SILENCER INCREASES THE NUMBER OF CFM DRAWN INTO THE EXHAUST TUBINGIN ADDITION TO REDUCING THE SOUND LEVELS ASSOCIATED WITH AN AUXILIARY VENTILATION FAN A CLEAN SILENCER INCREASES THE NUMBER OF CFM DRAWN INTO THE EXHAUST TUBING

    9. SOUND ABSORPTIVE MATERIALS CAN BE INSTALLED THESE MATERIALS CAN BE INSTALLED ON THE UNDER SIDE OF WATER COOLED ENGINE PANELSTHESE MATERIALS CAN BE INSTALLED ON THE UNDER SIDE OF WATER COOLED ENGINE PANELS

    12. Original Equipment Manufacturers Cabs SOME EXAMPLES OF THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR OF CABS USED IN CERTAIN UNDERGROUND MINING SOME EXAMPLES OF THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR OF CABS USED IN CERTAIN UNDERGROUND MINING

    13. OEM CABS ARE BECOMING MORE COMMONIN UNDERGROUND MINING

    14. CABS CAN ALSO BE FABRICATEDAND ACOUSTICALLY TREATED THIS JUMBO DRILL WAS PURCHASED WITHOUT AN OPERATOR’S CAB. THE COMPANY PUT THE DRILL IN THEIR SHOP AND HAD THIS ONE FABRICATED OUT OF ANGLE IRON AND SHEET STEEL AFTER THE SAFETY GLASS WINDOWS WERE INSTALLED THE INTERIOR WAS ACOUSTICALLY TREATED THE RESULT WAS AN AVERAGE OF 90 dB for 8 hours!THIS JUMBO DRILL WAS PURCHASED WITHOUT AN OPERATOR’S CAB. 15. BARRIERS CAN BE USED TO BLOCK SOUND LEVELS EMITTED BY UNDERGROUND MINING EQUIPMENT

    16. THE CONCEPT OF PLACING A BARRIER ADJACENT TO A NOISE SOURCE (e.g. THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, OR HYDRAULIC PUMP) IS TO ESTABLISH AN ACOUSTICAL SHADOW ZONE WHERE THE NOISE LEVELS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER). THIS AREA MAY BE A WORK LOCATION OR A PART OF THE MINE THAT IS PASSED THROUGH FREQUENTLYTHE CONCEPT OF PLACING A BARRIER ADJACENT TO A NOISE SOURCE (e.g. THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, OR HYDRAULIC PUMP) IS TO ESTABLISH AN ACOUSTICAL SHADOW ZONE WHERE THE NOISE LEVELS ARE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER). 17. HERE ARE TWO EXAMPLES OF THE USE OF BARRIERS THESE BARRIERS BLOCK OR DEFLECT THE DIRECT AIRBORNE PATH OF NOISE AWAY FROM THE OPERATORS. THEY CAN BE EASILY REMOVED FOR MAINTENANCE THESE BARRIERS BLOCK OR DEFLECT THE DIRECT AIRBORNE PATH OF NOISE AWAY FROM THE OPERATORS. THEY CAN BE EASILY REMOVED FOR MAINTENANCE

    18. CENTRAL MONITORING OF UNDERGROUND LOCATIONS BY INSTALLING CAMERAS SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN THIS MINE CAN BE MONITORED WITHOUT REQUIRING MINERS TO SPEND AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF TIME IN HIGH NOISE AREAS BY INSTALLING CAMERAS SEVERAL LOCATIONS IN THIS MINE CAN BE MONITORED WITHOUT REQUIRING MINERS TO SPEND AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF TIME IN HIGH NOISE AREAS
