  14. Ejection Injections Electron cooling Acceleration Timing & Sequencing : Operational Requirements LEIR is PPM (Pulse to Pulse Modulated) NORMAL Operation Nominal : 3.6s cycle Early Mode: 2.4s cycle

  15. Timing & Sequencing : Operational Requirements (cont’d) MD / Commissioning Operation • Very long injection plateaus • Purpose: perform life-time measurements,…. • Arbitrary length (> 10 sec) • No acceleration neither extraction • No synchronisation with PS (LEIR is stand-alone)

  16. Timing & Sequencing : AB/CO Proposal • 2 operational modes • Nominal Mode • PS and Lin3 - LEIR are coupled • PS and LEIR share the same SC length • MD Mode • New MTG dedicatedto this mode • PS and Lin3 - LEIR are decoupled. LEIR is standalone • LEIR SC length is arbitrary • Fully integrated into CBCM • Standard facility – Relies on Supercycle sequence • Deployed @ SPS in 2004 • MTG Master/ Slave switching mechanism - Remote ctl

  17. MD Operation: Very long injection plateausSequence of supercycles Example 1 Current .... 20. Outline • LEIR Machine • Generalities • Commissioning Planning • LEIR Controls • Scope • Architecture • Sequencing & Timing • Hardware • Front end Software • Application Software • General Services • Conclusions – Issues’ summary

  21. General Services : Monitoring • Requirements from May 2005 • Interactive tool for operators: survey + remote reset of computers • To be monitored: • All Front Ends • All Back Ends • All PLCs connected to the CO system (RF, vacuum,PC,…) • Requirements not specific . Fully addressed by the new Monitoring System provided by ABCOIN.

  22. CAREFUL CRITICAL (No HR affected) General Services : OASIS • Requirements from May 2005 • Full nAos functionality • High priority for machine physicists • 1 common triggering for Lin3-LEIR-PS • OASIS Mandate for 2005 • OASIS deployment on all machines • nAos phased out • Issues: missing staff • FE / Business Tier: 0.5 FTE • GUI Application: 0.5 FTE • Project in standby now • Recommandations • Prioritization of operational requirements (pre-requisite for staffing) • Decision on staffing for GUI: mandatory for 1st April 2004 • Potential risk of having NO complete observation system

  23. General Services : Alarms • Not possible today to foresee which Alarms system will be deployed for LEIR • More accurate estimate by end of May 2004 • 2 possible solutions for LEIR commissioning

  24. LASER Service Broker PS Gateway Old-New PS : Existing USP PS NEW USP FESA Current New Gateway If initial schedule is met

  25. PS LASER LASER Service PS Alarm System Alarm console PS Gateway New-Old Broker PS exisitng USP PS new USP FESA Current New Gateway If initial schedule is NOT met

  26. General Services : Alarms • Not possible today to foresee the Alarms system for LEIR in 2005 • More accurate estimate by end of May 2005 • 2 possible solutions • Whatever the solution, for new LEIR equipment : Need of LASER source API integration into FESA framework

  27. Conclusion & Issues • Commissioning LEIR looks challenging ! • LEIR = test-bed for lots of new systems • Timing Receiver Cards • Integration of DSP HW • FESA framework • Console Manager + AP Framework • LASER • OASIS • Monitoring System

  28. Conclusion & Issues • Commissioning LEIR looks worrying ! • Some concerns from the USER team • New machine with new systems • Some concerns from the LEIR CO team • Technical issues • Human Resource issues • Lots of issues to be addressed to meet the schedule!
