Dr. Emir Caner

Truett-McConnell College

Dr. Johnny Hunt

1st Baptist Church of Woodstock

Born on August 25, 1970, EMIR FETHI CANER grew up in the Columbus, Ohio, area in a Sunni Muslim family, the son of an Islamic leader. As a young teenager, he came to faith in Jesus Christ at a revival service at the Stelzer Road Baptist Church.

Dr. Caner has served as a lecturer and seminar leader in numerous colleges and institutes, as well as in pastor and staff positions in churches in Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and Texas over the past decade. From 1999 to 2004 he was Assistant Professor of Church History and Anabaptist Studies at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and during the 2004-2005 academic year, he served as the seminary’s Associate Dean of Southeastern College at Wake Forest as well.

In 2005 he became the founding Dean of The College at Southwestern, Director of the Center for Free Church Studies and Professor of History at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and remained there until he accepted the call of Truett-McConnell College to become its eighth president in August 2008.

On a mission trip to the Czech Republic in 2000, he met HanaTiterova, daughter of the General Secretary of the Czech Baptist Union in Prague. They were married later that year; they are the parents of three children

JOHNNY HUNT was born in Lumberton, North Carolina. He is a member of the Lumbee Native American Indian tribe based in North Carolina.[He has earned degrees from Gardner-Webb College and the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and received honorary doctorates from Immanuel Baptist Theological Seminary, Covington Theological Seminary, and Tennessee Temple University. He is married to Janet Allen Hunt of Wilmington, North Carolina. They have two daughters, three granddaughters and one grandson.

Hunt has held ministry positions at Lavonia Baptist Church, Mooresboro, North Carolina (July 1976–August 1979), Falls Baptist Church in Wake Forest, N. C. Please let us know the times of your services.

Jim likes to be prompt when he comes to visit!

County-Wide Ministry Opportunity:

Love Loud – Floyd County:

There’s a running joke around the ministry center that concerns the way I walk. Most everybody thinks that I am always in a hurry. That’s not the way it is, I just walk fast. For some reason I feel an urgency to get where I’m going.

Lately, that urgency has carried over to evangelism. I have always been a “news junkie”, someone who has to know everything that’s going on in this world. As I watch the news on TV and read various articles, my sense of urgency to tell people about Jesus is growing. The world we live in needs Jesus now more than ever.

The churches of Rome and Floyd County are feeling that urgency as well. On September 25th our churches will come together for one day of service to our community. “Love Loud Floyd County” will give our churches a divine appointment to give back to our community. There will be various community projects for each church to participate in.

On Sunday, September 26th we will give a full report on this day to the annual meeting at Fellowship Baptist Church. This will be time to praise God for what He has done in our community.

We pray that your church will be a part of this great day in Rome and Floyd County. If you’d like more information, please call the associational office at 706-291-0904 or ask your pastor what your church is planning to do.

Let’s show Rome and Floyd County how much Jesus loves them through his body of believers!
