Elements of Drama
  • Acts– units of the action in a drama. Acts are often divided up into scenes. (Act 1 Scene 2)
  • Dialogue – term given to the words characters say. Quotation marks are not used in scripts.(script is the printed form of a play) Instead, the words of each character appear next to the character’s name.

Stage Directions – bracketed information that tell what the stage looks like and how the characters should move and speak.

example: [MILO looks around.]

  • Set – is the construction on the stage that creates the setting.
  • Props – moveable items – objects like a book, suitcase, or flashlight – that the actors use to make their actions look real.

Types of Drama
  • Drama – often about a serious subject
  • Comedy – has a happy ending; funny.
  • Tragedy – has an unhappy ending; main character usually dies or has a bad ending
