Comparing Ca2+ Levels in Uninfected and Infected Myoblast Cultures

This study compared resting Ca2+ levels in uninfected and infected myoblast cultures using double-barreled Ca2+-selective microelectrodes in human skeletal myotubes. Results showed two types of responses in infected cultures at 12 and 24 hours. Data collected included stable recordings for at least 40 seconds and ranged from 11 to 28 experiments. Visual representation: white bars represent controls, grey bars represent dengue-exposed (uninfected), and striped bars represent dengue-exposed (infected) conditions, with asterisks indicating infected cells in the whole culture.

  1. Figure 4. Ca2+ measures in uninfected and infected myoblasts cultures. Resting Ca2+ concentrations were measured by means of double-barreled Ca2+-selective microelectrodes in human skeletal myotubes. The potential of the voltage microelectrode (Vm) was subtracted electronically from the potential of the Ca2+ electrode (VCae) to give the differential signal (VCa) that represents the resting myoplasmic Ca2+ concentration. Stable recording for at least 40 s were collected. The number of experiments ranged between 11 and 28. Two types of responses were found in the infected culture at 12 and 24 hours. White bars represent controls, grey bars represent dengue exposed (uninfected), the striped bars represent dengue exposed (infected) conditions. The asterisk indicates infected cells in the whole culture.
