  2. Documentaries try to do 3 things

  3. 1. Give a voice to the voiceless • let us hear from the people and/or perspectives that we don't normally hear from • portraying them as they would like to be portrayed

  4. 2. Find the extraordinary in the ordinary • to exalt the everyday • focus on everyday people in everyday situations, leading everyday lives • slow down and look at it differently, to see just how cool and amazing those things really are---and what those things have to teach us

  5. 3. Focus on the journey–not just the destination • draw our attention to the whole process - show us how things got to be the way they are • e.g., Hollywood shows the thrill and excitement of romance -- documentary would show the hard work involved in marriage

  6. TASK • Task: Choose film from www.documentaryheaven.com or www.cultureunplugged.com • Aim for a film that's between 20-60 minutes • Complete ‘3 Aims of Documentaries’ sheet • 5 sentences per aim (5 marks each) • Put into Writers Notebook • Due Friday
