  3. INTRODUCTIONS There’s always something of interest that we don’t know about each other. There’s always something about us that is worth sharing.

  4. OBJECTIVES To create the conditions in which people are able to engage in learning from each other about the ways they think about diversity, inclusion and equity as values to be lived in your work.

  5. OBJECTIVES To establish common language and references about the subject matter and to highlight the values that CERF+ uses in its work. To demonstrate the value of being listened to and practicing active listening as a leadership tool.

  6. OBJECTIVES To develop an equity lens through which CERF+ leadership can use as one of the filters used in decision making.

  7. Diversity, inclusion and equity are related, but distinct, goals.

  8. Diversity The understanding that each individual is unique. Encompassing many dimensions. All the ways that we are different.

  9. Inclusion How we bring together and harness these diverse forces in ways that are beneficial. It is possible to have an organization that is highly diverse, yet not inclusive.

  10. Equity Creating equal access for all people through the process of removing barriers. Requires understanding the root causes of disparities.

  11. Equality and Equity are different Equality Inputthat assumes all circumstances/groups require same resources. Reinforcesexisting inequities.

  12. Equality and Equity are different Equity Outcomethat reflects optimal results for all circumstances/groups. Grounded in analysis and strategy that addressesexisting inequities.

  14. Equity Requires Applying differential resources to unequal needs. Removing barriers for dissimilarly situated individuals, families, and communities. Treating similarly situated individuals, families, and communities similarly.

  15. Building Blocks for Equitable Work Shared language Local history and structural analysis Systematic application of an equity impact analysis Effective communication Community organizing and constituency engagement

  16. Definition of Cultural Equity Cultural equity embodies the values, policies and practices that ensure that all people—including, but not limited to, those who have been historically underrepresented based on race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, socioeconomic status, geography, citizenship status or religion—are represented in the development of arts policy; the support of artists; the nurturing of accessible, thriving venues for expression; and the fair distribution of programmatic, financial and informational resources.
