  8. WHY SHOULD AUTHORIES DO ANYTHING? • To protect the integrity of the Blue Badge scheme • Good business case with financial benefit • The National Fraud Authority estimates half a million Blue Badges are misused at a cost of £46 million to local authorities.

  9. WHY DO SOME AUTHORITIES NOT ENFORCE IT? • Confusion over responsibility • Budget restriction/ low priority • Lack of training • Easier to ignore the problem

  10. WHAT SHOULD PARKING DEPARTMENTS DO? • Stop ignoring the problem and tackle it • Invest in training • Think about the long term benefits that enforcement will bring • Take action to protect those who really need and depend on the Blue Badge scheme
