Developing ICT across the curriculum Wendy Delf: Cornwall Learning Shamoon Dean: AVermedia Equipment kindly donated by Avermedia
Who was involved? • Eight secondary schools were identified • They had worked on previous ICT/English projects • Teachers were known for their ICT work beyond their own department • ASTs – encouraged to develop outreach work
Aims of the project • To develop the role of ASTs and English teachers with new technologies in English • To support ICT teachers in developing the use of ICT technologies within and beyond their own practice • To support MFL departments: generating pupils’ speech in the target language • To link to the Becta self review framework: procurement of resources that relate directly to school improvement and impact on teaching and learning (Element 2a,b,c) • Development since project started: for a variety of reasons, the project embraced other subject areas: 4 schools continued to develop work in the English department;2 schools developed work in DT and maths and 2 were unable to develop the project.
Desired outcomes of the project • Develop the use of low tech equipment to enhance teaching and learning • Shared understanding of how ICT continues to contribute to effective learning in the 21st century • Impact on raising standards (APP, FS?) • Collaboration within and across departments • Development of links across the county • Developing colleagues own CPD
Summer term 2009 • Opportunity for colleagues to familiarise themselves with the equipment/basic training by Avermedia • Discussion with colleagues from teacher’s own school, subject area, different schools, different subject areas • Sharing of initial ideas, plans for use
Autumn term 2009 • Opportunities to plan use of visualiser into schemes of learning, collaborative planning, peer support in departments, across school and beyond school • Meeting to feed back on impact • Development of other colleagues/departments in the project
Spring term 2010 • Review of project (impact on T&L, standards, student voice) • Opportunity to write up formal action research (optional) • Feedback to other colleagues via SLDMs, advance practitioner meetings, Strategy Manager meetings, network meetings • Plan to embed use within own teaching and to support at least one other colleague
Summer 2010 • AST and adviser to visit schools, gather evidence of best practice • Colleagues involved in project to write up case studies for Avermedia • Share with colleagues • County Adviser to write up project for AVermedia and wider audience
Autumn 2010 • 4 school case studies produced • County case study completed • 2 teachers and county adviser to present project at BETT in January 2011 • Development of primary project 2011
Evaluation of project so far… • time saving • spontaneous • students liked it • supports peer assessment • encourages modelling by teacher • opportunity to use real texts • demonstration of effective writing • used to record and upload work to shared area (staff and students)
