  1. Development of Web-based Integrated Multi-sectoral Information Systems (IMIS)

  2. Outline • Purpose of IMIS • Features of IMIS • IMIS Special Features - Datasets • Hierarchical Structure • ESARO Indicator IMIS • Examples of the screens (ESARO, Country and Indicators) • Demonstration of Kenya IMIS

  3. Purpose of IMIS • Software developed by CELADE to process micro data • A reliable one-stop shop of national statistical data source with multiple purpose for online processing, • Micro-data from censuses, surveys and administrative data sources • Second part may be designed containing indicators for monitoring:- • National development programmes, • SDGS and other international and regional initiatives • Reporting of results

  4. Data Dissemination through REDATAM Applications • Redatam Development team is focusing more on the development of special applications to disseminate population data (for example on CDs or through the Web) using micro-data and aggregated data. • Why? • Easy and friendly interface; direct processing without programming for intermediate users, but advanced users can extract more. • Users define the parameters for tabulations and processes • Predefined indicators can be processed. • Graphs and thematic maps can be produced. • Several applications have been developed with Census data, vital statistics, industrial census, agricultural census, trade statistics. • Online processing of data, ensuring confidentiality of data at all times.

  5. IMIS Special Features - Datasets • Storage of voluminous data • Security- storage of data in a compressed encrypted format • Compatibility with most (common) software • Easy exportation of results (only the aggregated data, not micro-data) to other software (Excel, ASCII, SPSS) • Creation of thematic maps & graphs for each output table, as well as exportation to GIS.

  6. Dissemination of data (micro data or aggregated data) through stand alone applications on CDs or through the web using REDATAM web server. On-line data processing (using the REDATAM web server) of the micro-data or aggregated data. Available free in four languages- English, Portuguese, French and Spanish IMIS Special Features…contd

  7. Country Region Zone Woreda Kebele Hierarchical Structure Facilitates the data processing for small areas A database management tool that administrates large volumes of census micro data with hierarchical (geographical) structure down to the smallest area of the census exercise (city blocks).

  8. Contents of IMIS • Databases from Censuses and Surveys already online (Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique and Uganda) • More to follow –Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe, etc.

  9. Contents of ESARO Indicator IMIS • ESARO IMIS Indicator System • UNFPA Signature indicators • UNFPA SDG indicators • Other SDG Indicators • Programme Indicators (in following sectors Population, Health, Gender, Youth, Development, etc.)
