Nordplus VALA Development Project 2: Evaluation and Intensive Courses in Career Counseling

This project aims to evaluate the practical training of students in career counseling and strengthen the ties between career counselors, educators, and practitioners. It involves phases of evaluation and assessment, creating questionnaires, data analysis, and reporting results. Additionally, an intensive course will be held to discuss joint learning communities and professionalization in the field.

Today • During the first meeting held in Reykjavík September 2012 a sub group of partners that manage this activity and some interested active participants will meet separately and prepare the first steps in the work on this project. • The group will disseminate their plan to other participants at the end of the meeting. • Prepare the network meeting in fall of 2013 will focus on development project 2. • Activity: Evaluation, Intensive Courses

Defination • An important link in the development of practical training of students is the preparation of career counselorsthat work in the field and supervise students. • Additionally, another important aim of this network is to strengthen the ties between career counselors educators and practitioners that work in the field and provide the services in the labour market.

  5. Phase 2. Evaluation /assessment (contain in practise – what we are doing? What we need to develop?) 1. evaluation of competences where the practical training based on in HEI in Nordic countries, 2. evaluation of aims and criteria in practical training, 3. evaluation of assessment in practical training (incl. self-and peer-assessment), 4. evaluation of educational intervention in practical training, and 5. evaluation of learning tasks done by students in practical training. In the every tasks is important to investigate relation between interventions in the practical training and quality of delivered services to clients and the central tasks in which students should be able to perform professionally.

  7. Phase 3. Intensivecourse • In the 3rd year of the network a joint workshop will be held for career counselors and educator that take on students for on the job training. • Another major aim of the course is to discuss how to create a joint learning community of practitioners, students and HEI programs to increase professionalization and improve services. Therefore this course will be held both for practitioners who work in the field in the participating countries the educators and students. • This project is an important part of the quality assurance of the students education as career counselorsand the services. This projects also contributes to the development of instructional methods with the focus on the creation of three way learning communities of practitioners, students and higher education faculty.
