  3. INTRODUCTION • France is surrounded by Andorra, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, Spain, and Switzerland. • Its capital is Paris. • 60,424,213 inhabitants. • Ethnic make-up: Celtic and Latin, Slavic, North African, Indochinese, and Basque. • Religion: Roman Catholic 83-88%.

  4. Languages • French is the official. • However, there are the Flemish, Catalan, the Celtic language, and Breton.

CUISINE • Food is one of the great passions of the French people. • French cooking is highly refined and involves careful preparation, attention to detail, and the use of fresh ingredients. • The main products are the dairy products, mushrooms, tomatoes, fresh and fine herbs, pork meat, sausages, etc..

  6. FAMILY AND VALUES The extended family provides both emotional and financial support. Families have few children, but parents take their role as guardians and providers very seriously.
