  2. What is a Social Contract? Definition • An agreement of Behavior Goal • A self managing group

  3. The Social Contract does not • Take the place of consequences or procedures. • Consequences are clearly defined and included with the Social Contract

  4. Question • How many of you get tired of your teachers nagging you and telling you what to do?

  5. Well, • “I am not going to do that because you are all mature young adults.” • “This is YOUR class, so you are going to decide how we treat each other, AND • YOU are going to help each other, AND • I don’t have to get involved, there will be no consequences!”

  6. TEAMWORK • Being able to work in a team is the number one quality that employers look for when hiring. • Why not start practicing that NOW?

  7. Qualities of Great Team Members • Cooperation • Hard Work • Compromise • Dedication • Discipline • Communication • Encouragement • Accountability

  8. Answer these Questions • How do you want to be treated by me (leader)? • How do you want to be treated by each other? • How do you think I (leader) want to be treated by you? • How do we want to treat each other when there is conflict?

  9. Non-Verbal Signs Signal Leader uses with the group Thumbs Up Class will respond in silence with Thumbs Up on both hands

  10. Non Verbal Signs Signal the Group uses with each other Waving Thumbs Up No response is needed other than stop the behaviors

  11. Non Verbal Signs Signal for Put-Downs (Fouls) Crossed Arms on a X (Football Personal Foul)

  12. Fouls • If it is called, it counts • It’s not a “toy” – Don’t joke around, don’t play with it. • Someone can call a foul for someone else. • If called, no explanation is needed.

  13. Consequences • Verbal Warning (The Questions) • Removal from group (Hallway, or separate desk) • Removal from class (AID) • Office Referral

  14. The Questions For Misbehavior • Excuse me…What are you doing? • What are you supposed to be doing? • Are you doing it? • What are you going to do about it • SO what is going to happen if you do this again? For Disrespect • Excuse me…Who are you speaking to? • How are you supposed to be speaking to ____? • Were you talking that way? • How are you going to talk to ______? • So, what is going to happen if you do this again?
