  1. What Tests Can I Do Myself To Check How Healthy My Home Is? What Tests Can I Do Myself To Check How Healthy My Home Is? Pollution and smog in the environment are one of the major reasons for health concerns among humans. But most of us are unaware that the air inside our homes could contain more contaminants than the air outside irrespective of where we live. Ideally, if we suspect an air pollution problem inside our homes, it is advised to hire professionals to get an indoor air quality test done. But since we are all citizen scientists, our first instinct is to check the indoor air contaminant levels ourselves by performing home air tests. The do it yourself indoor air qualitycost may be less but it is also less reliable. However, it gives us peace of mind and we know what we are dealing with. So, here are some ways we can keep an eye on the indoor air quality inside our homes. Test for mold in the air Mold is a common household pollutant and is usually present everywhere in the environment. A standard mold test includes a petri dish along with a substance inside that you keep in your house for a while. If you spot mold, then its time to get professional air quality testing done and the mold removed. Install Carbon Monoxide alarms Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a byproduct of fuel combustion and overexposure to it will kill you. It is tasteless, colorless and odorless which makes it difficult to track. CO alarms measure its concentration and signal you if something is wrong. Conduct Radon testing Radon is not as dangerous as Carbon Monoxide but prolonged exposure could lead to serious health hazards. So if you want to conduct indoor air testing, radon testing is a must. Get yourself an indoor air quality monitor It is a device that monitors indoor air quality. It consistently tests and reports on the levels of pollution inside your home. There are a lot of threats to indoor air quality and the number of tests can be overwhelming. The better option is to hire professionals to perform indoor air testing and let them take care of it all.
