Welcome to 8th Grade Math with Mrs. Katona: Grading, Resources, and Support

Welcome to 8th-grade math! Grading consists of 75% assessments (tests, quizzes, projects) and 25% daily work and homework. Tests may be retaken with effort towards improvement and corrections made on notebook paper. Our textbook encourages writing in it, with built-in notes and problems. The virtual classroom provides interactive components, including videos and assignments. For extra help, join the Math Study Club after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, or utilize library computers during various times.

  1. Welcome! This is 8thGrade Math with Mrs. Katona

  2. Grading • 75% of the grade is made of assessments • Tests, Quizzes, Check Ups, Chapter Tests, Unit Tests, Projects • 25% of the grade is made up of daily work and homework

  3. What Can be Retaken? • Tests provided it is not near the end of a grading period • Students must demonstrate effort towards improvement- extra work assigned by me along with correcting errors on test on notebook paper (don’t change answers on the test)

  4. Quizzes • Quiz scores can be increased through corrections of errors on notebook paper or explanations of what was done incorrectly (depends on question type) Do not change your original answer – do work on notebook paper

  5. Textbook Information • The textbook is designed for students to write in it! • The textbook has built in notes, vocabulary, and practice problems. • The textbook has an answer key and essential math formulas in the back.

  6. Your Virtual Classroom • This book has an interactive online component. • The online portion has videos, examples, and more practice problems. • Some assignments will be submitted online.

  7. How to log into the virtual classroom • Initially you need to load yourself into my class. Then I will grant access to you. • See my website for more information. • Need to use my “redemption code” and student skyward log in. Passwords are DIFFERENT: skyward login upper case. • Ex: Login: ververk000 Password: VERVERK000 **Sometimes this process may not work- just let me know**

  8. Computers and Help at School • Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a Math Study Club in the library after school • Extension during day • Computers available for use in library- before school, after school, lunch, and extension • Many English and Social Studies teachers have computers in their rooms- use in extension
