The new specifications reflect the need for students who do not continue beyond GCSE to get a practical grounding in the application of Science, and the need for students who will take Science further to gain the knowledge to do so.
Students who wish to study SEPARATE SCIENCES must ensure that they cover the CORE GCSE. They can do this by taking all three sciences for three GCSEs or by taking the CORE GCSE plus one separate science of their choice.
The series has been designed to develop a questioning, analytical and evaluative approach to scientific problems and issue.
Students are encouraged to develop an understanding of the nature of science and the associated power and limitation, as well as acquiring an understanding of the importance of science to themselves and society.
Students who wish to study Separate Sciences must ensure that they cover the Core GCSE. They can do this either by taking all three sciences for three GCSEs - Biology, Chemistry and Physics – or by taking the Core GCSE plus one separate science of their choice.
