  2. One of the things that anyone should consider before pursuing a new career is what the job growth looks like for that career. After all, it would be a poor choice to invest in a low job growth career.

  3. Fortunately, the Bureau of Labor Statistics says the security guard profession is set to grow 12% between now and 2022.

  4. This figure does include the outlook for gaming surveillance officers and investigators…as more and more states start to allow casinos within their borders you will certainly see more openings in this high stakes industry.

  5. “Overall, job opportunities should be excellent, especially for security guards. The large size of the occupation will result in many job openings as workers leave the occupation each year. However, there will be more competition for higher paying positions that require more training and experience.”

  6. What does this mean for your own future? First, it means that you should get all the training and experience that you can. Do not pass up any opportunity to increase or improve your skills. This is the way to stay employed as well as the way to make more money as a security guard.

  7. You should, of course, pay special attention to any video surveillance training opportunities that you come across.

  8. Second, this means that you should keep a close eye on the casino industry and the opportunities inside of that industry.

  9. You need to make sure your job search includes casinos if your state allows them, and you need to keep an eye on any news you may hear about changes in the laws or new casinos coming to town if it doesn’t.

  10. This way you’ll be poised to get invaluable gaming experience, especially since gaming experience translates to security guard positions as well. All in all, you can be very confident launching a security guard career!
