Codes Code RED - Fire (await instructions from staff in area) Rescue Alarm Contain Extinguish CodeBLUE - Adult Medical Emergency – Code Team will respond to address medical care Code Cardiac Alert ED – Acute Heart Attack Patient is on route to the ED – ED will prepare for arrival of patient CodePediatric Code BLUE - Pediatric Medical Emergency –Code Team will respond to address medical care Code GRAY - Team response to violence or escalating situation – Do not confront, allow team to respond and safely de-escalate situation CodePediatric Security or Baby Security - Be observant and report suspicious activity

  9. General Safety General Safety training is provided on Learning Point. Employees must read and pass a written test Department-specific safety training is provided to supplement the general safety information above JMMC and JMH Safety Policies are provided as a reference, in conjunction with department-specific information 9

  10. Security Immediately report all suspicious activities. Be alert! Secure hospital and personal property Keep purses and wallets secure, lock car, etc. Students must wear ID badges at all times Hospital is locked 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. All visitors/employees in hospital during these hours must wear ID. Security escort may be requested 10

Hazardous Material / Waste • Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) • Located in each department (on-line) • Read MSDS before using any hazardous material • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) • Always wear PPE as required for your safety • Spill Procedures • Report large spills to Environmental Services (JMWC) and Plant Services (JMCC) • Clean up small (incidental) spills • Trained staff only clean up Radiation / Cytotoxic spills

Pharmaceutical Waste Non-RCRA Pharmaceutical Waste What goes inside the blue containers: • Partial vials (safety caps removed) • Partial-pre-filled syringes • Partial syringes • Discontinued meds • Narcotics (vials) draw up in unmarked syringe/dispose syringe. Bag – remove any identifier and dispose bag intact. 14

Medical Equipment • Don’t use medical equipment unless it has been properly inspected • Note date on the sticker before use, and don’t use if date is past due • Red tag all defective medical equipment and remove it from service • Notify Biomedical Department • Complete Patient Safety Alert (PSA) (on-line) if device was involved in patient death, injury or potential injury (see Midas link) • Never use equipment unless you have been trained in its use

  17. Cell Phone Use • Cell phone use is restricted in certain clinical areas due to the risk of medical equipment interference • Note signs posted in restricted areas • Direct visitors to conduct all calls outside of restricted clinical areas

Hazardous Chemicals & Materials Reporting hazardous chemical spills: Close off the area for safety and immediately report spill to area Supervisor Do not pour ANY hazardous materials and chemicals down hospital drains. Find out about hazardous chemicals or materials located in the area you are working Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS Manual). The data sheets provide explanation of how to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely.

Security and Parking Call Extension 31726/939-3000 from outside ID Badges Wear your ID badges at all times when on JMH property Awareness Always be aware of your surroundings and report anything suspicious or unusual to the JMH Security staff. Property It is your responsibility to protect hospital property and ensure that your own personal belongings are locked or stowed away from prying eyes. Report any losses to your Supervisor and JMH Security Parking Use reserved Volunteer parking and lock your car
