  1. Infusing Disability Content Across a University Campus Janet Perkins Corbett, MS - Wyoming Institute for Disabilities Methods In Spring Semester 2012 we created an instrument with the following questions: • Introduction • Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) created a series of Infusion Units as an effective way to provide disability related content to students in diverse courses. • Goals of Infusion Units: • Students will become familiar with disability issues • Students will understand how to effectively interact with people with disabilities • Students will have a greater understanding of disability issues • Students will have a greater understanding about disability studies as an academic field • What level would you rate your knowledge of this subject before this program? • What level would you rate your knowledge of this subject after this program? • How much do you think the information you learned in this presentation will change the way you interact with people with disabilities? Student Comments “Overall good presentation, I have a concern that changing the language used may not change the intent of that language and if that isn’t emphasized the stigma may not change with the language.” “It’s great to hear these guest speakers because it is something we will encounter often as nurses and everyday people- thank you!” “There was a lot of valuable information that I can use as a guide in my future career as a teacher.” “It was revealing to have both of you coming and helping to face the challenges we will have as health care providers in order to avoid discrimination against people with disabilities.” Results We find it useful to contact instructors directly. Occasionally departments have more formally included infusion units into their curricula.
