  2. What does the Torah explain? • The Torah explained what God considered to be right and wrong. • Consist of the five books of Moses. • Contains the Ten Commandments.

  4. According to the “Ten Commandments” who should the Israelites be loyal to and what should they not worship? • GOD • Israelites do not worship images, symbols, or any other Gods Monotheism: Belief in one God Polytheism: Belief in many Gods

  5. Why are the “Ten Commandments” important? • The Ten Commandments are important because they helped shape the basic moral laws of many nations. • The Ten Commandments also helped develop a belief in the “rule of law.” • Morals : the basic concepts of Right and Wrong.

  7. What source do Historians use to learn about the Early Israelites? • Historians use accounts from the Bible to study the early Israelites. • To Historians the Bible is like a textbook or library filled with information of the past.

  12. How did the 12 tribes earn their meaning? • After three generations of peace in the land of Canaan; Abraham’s twelve great grandchildren split Canaan into twelve tribes. • Each tribe was controlled and ruled by one of Abraham’s Grandchildren.

  13. Why did the Israelites leave Canaan? • Eventually the Israelites left Canaan because of a major drought. • The Israelite traveled south to Egypt where they prospered for many years.

Who was the person that led the Israelites out of Egypt? • Around 1200 B.C., an Israelite leader by the name of Moses led his people out of Egypt and back towards the land of Canaan. - Moses was, according to the Hebrew Bible and the Qur'an, a religious leader, lawgiver and prophet, to whom the authorship of the Torah is traditionally attributed.
