  2. Introduction – What MRCGP is all about • The MRCGP is an integrated assessment programme that includes three components: • Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) • Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA) • Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA)

  3. Each of these is independent and will test different skills, but together they will cover the curriculum for specialty training for GP Evidence for the workplace-based assessment will be collected in the e-portfolio of each GP trainee. The GP Registrar must demonstrate competency across 12 Competency areas of Workplace Based Assessment (as well as pass the AKT and CSA examinations) MRCGP

Communication and Consultation Skills Practising Holistically Data Gathering and Interpretation Making a Diagnosis/Making Decisions Clinical Management Managing Medical Complexity Primary Care Administration & Information Management & Technology Working with Colleagues and in Teams Community Orientation Maintaining Performance, Learning and Teaching Maintaining an Ethical Approach to Practise Fitness to Practise 12 competencies extracted from the core curriculum statement ‘Being a General Practitioner’.

  5. Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA) • The 12 competencies underpin the assessments required throughout GP training • Common to all, but may look slightly different across the WBA • Don’t hide them! – make it easy for your educational supervisors to tick the boxes

Workplace-Based Assessment Tools • *Case-based Discussion (CBD) • *Consultation Observation (COT) in primary care or Mini-CEX in secondary care • *Multi-Source Feedback (MSF) • *Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ) • Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) • Clinical Supervisors’ Reports (CSR) when in secondary care

  7. CBD • Case Based Discussion – a structured interview designed to explore professional judgement exercised in clinical cases that have been selected and presented by the trainee.

  8. COT • Consultation Observation Tool - designed to be used by trainers as an evidence collecting instrument. • It takes its basis from the summative assessment/MRCGP video assessment.

  9. MiniCex • Mini-Clinical Evaluation eXercise - 15 minute snapshot of doctor/patient interaction. • It is designed to assess the clinical skills, attitudes and behaviours of trainees.

  10. Multi-Source Feedback – this in an externally applied assessment You generate tickets/emails for your assessors to complete via your eportfolio Number of assessors vary: ST1- 5 replies ST3 – 5 clinical & 5 non-clinical. Needs to be done TWICE ST2 – NO MSF MSF

  11. PSQ • Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire • Need 40 responses!! So aim for many more to be handed out. • Your GP practice need to enter forms • Requirement is 2 throughout training-> if first not done in ITP then 2 need to be completed in ST3
