  2. Current sources – databases, open web, newspapers. • Reference sources – dictionary, encyclopedias (print or web based) • Comprehensive sources – books or primary documents. (Bible, Koran, Papal Encyclical, letters, journals, interviews, legal documents). Types of Sources

  3. Required to have 5 sources. • Best to have balanced research and sources. • Combination of different types of sources demonstrates that you have thoroughly researched all areas of your topic. Sources Continued

  4. Evidence based writing means that you are finding information to support your argument. • Evidence can be found in the form of current sources, reference sources or comprehensive sources. Usually information has been published and compiled by experts in their respective fields. • It is important to cite reliable sources! Incorporating Sources

Library hosted subscription databases. • Open web sites that have been evaluated or are pre-screened. • Published articles, books and magazines that have been checked by an editor. • No Wikipedia! It is updated by everyone and anyone with no indication of professional credentials! What are Reliable Sources?

  10. You only have 5 pages to expound upon your topic, so keep a tight focus. Zero in on one particular problem out of a large issue. • Remember you need to include a comparison-contrast component in your paper. • You can devote 1/4 to issues, 1/2 to doctrine or tradition, 1/4 to comparison-contrast. (Check with Mr. Ruiz) Focus, focus, focus

  11. Its up to you how to stylistically and creatively present your topic. • When you construct paragraphs make sure that your idea is consistent throughout. • Back-up claims with examples drawn from research. (statistics, doctrinal quotes, etc). Organization
