  2. About Me • Cary High and NC State grad • Degree in Middle School Math/Science Education • Working on Master’s Degree • Nationally Board Certified • 17th Year Teaching in Wake County

  3. Units of Study(What do we want the students to learn?) • Experimental Design • Atmosphere and Weather • Cells • Heredity and Genetics • Human Body • Forces and Motion

  4. Common Assessments (Quizzes/Tests)(How do we know if the students learned the material?) • Pre-Assessments given to determine prior knowledge and growth • Developed by 7th grade science teachers • Given across grade level • Aligned with new Essential Standards • Usually quiz every two weeks and two tests per quarter • Unit Overviews and study guides provided for each major unit of study

  5. Remediation(What do we do if the students didn’t learn the material?) • Includes students that did not show mastery of material • Reteaching done in small group settings • One retest will be allowed • Participation will be required

  6. Required Materials • I.L.L. • Pencil • Agenda • Homework • Homework Folder – Can share with other classes

  7. Grading • Tests 30% Quizzes/Projects 30% Labs 20% Skills/Homework 20%

  8. Homework • Assigned 2-3 times per week • Reviewed or discussed next day in class • Includes: • finishing lab reports • completing reflections (POYO) in I.L.L. • studying for quizzes/tests • 20 minutes maximum

  9. Textbooks • Issued upon request • Book or CD format available • Used as a supplemental source for instruction • Online textbooks available at www.ck12.org (link available on Weebly); you can print or download copies to iPad, Kindle, etc.

  10. Quizlet • Vocabulary review • Posted at beginning of every unit • Apps available for download • Link on science Weebly • Should be reviewing weekly
