Remote Communication Solutions for Danfoss VLT Drives Using ESU and VPN Technology
The ESU Remote Communication option offers a cell modem with RS-485 tunneling for Danfoss VLT drives, enabling technicians to access and control drives remotely through a secure broadband connection. This innovative solution facilitates quick commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance without needing a qualified technician on-site. The MCT-10 drive software operates seamlessly, providing secure access via PPTP or IPsec VPNs. Ideal for field use and demos, it ensures safe remote operations while filtering outbound traffic and supports secure connections for reliable drive management.

Access • With the majority of installations, it’s not always possible to have a qualified VLT technician on site to commission a new installation or troubleshoot an existing one.
Cell modem with RS-485 tunneling MCT-10 drive software operates transparently over a broadband connection to the remote VLT.
Solution • Provide remote access for qualified people to the remote VLT unit. • The MCT-10 software is operated by the technician remotely to quickly and safely solve the installation or maintenance issue.
Remote User: PPTP VPN • For sales force demos and field technician use • Requires PPTP client on every host initiating session to the cellular device • Slightly less secure than IPsec VPN • Outbound traffic to internet can be filtered by whitelisting IP addresses or ports • Typically used for development or testing purposes • PPTP in Porthos account has access to all cellular connections in that account
Secure connection to Remote Variable speed drives • Field mounted cell modem equipped ESU’s can only initiate calls. Incoming connections must come from a secure source. • Access and connection to remote equipment operations requires secure network operations. • A virtual private network (VPN) connection provides the peace of mind.
Support Center: Standard IPsec VPN • Only traffic intended directly for customer's LAN goes over the IPsec tunnel • Outbound traffic to internet can be filtered by whitelisting IP addresses or ports • Most popular and easiest type of IPsec to set up
