S3C5PO1 Base Words and Inflected Forms • Inflected endings can change the meaning of a base word • Present to Past • Assist to Assisted • Singular to Plural • Automobile to automobiles • In order to find the inflected form of a word in a dictionary, you must identify the base word then look up the word.

VCCCV Pattern • Words can be broken into syllables. • Each syllable must have a vowel sound. • VCCCV words always have two blended consonants that are pronounced in the same syllable.
