Progress Update on OpenPGP 2440bis: Final Tweaks and Future Work Direction

In our latest OpenPGP meeting, we highlighted that we are nearing the completion of 2440bis, with only minor adjustments remaining. Most actionable issues are addressed in bis15, aside from David Shaw's request regarding the BNF. We’re set to finalize our work and transition to a last call. Historically, the limited number of OpenPGP documents has been beneficial, though the longevity of these documents presents challenges. I suggest that any future major developments, such as new algorithms, should be documented separately.

  1. OpenPGP Status Jon Callas jon@pgp.com

  2. Present Status • We've been essentially in last call (I've humorously called it penultimate call) for some time now • We're now only tweaking • All open, actionable issues are in bis15 except David Shaw's request for literal+literal in the BNF, and I see no reason to block this

  3. What Next? • Let’s go to last call for 2440bis and finish • In the past, we've had the advantage that there are relatively few OpenPGP documents • The downside is that we have long-lived bis documents • I propose future major work (new algorithms, etc.) be done in difference documents
