  2. The hull of Titanic was launched at the Harland and Wolff shipyard on May 31, 1911to an audience of 150,000- a third of Belfast's population.

  3. The tTtanicsailed from Southampton across the English channel to Cherbourg ,France ,where more passengers boarded. The ship re-crossed the channel to Queenstown (now Cobh) in Ireland, and then set off across the North Atlantic for New York. The titanic was carrying 5,986 tonnes of coal to New York.

  4. Of the 120 Irish who had set out for America from Cork with hopes of a better life ,78 died and 42 lived to tell the tale, a survival rate of 35pc.

  5. In total 25per cent of third-class passengers survived. Deaths included 119 woman and children and 417 men.

  6. The ill fated passengers ship RMS.Titanic was launched on 31st May 1911 into competitive world of luxury ocean. • Although her designers claimed the ship was virtually unsinkable, she was not.

  7. There were only two bathtubs for more than 700 third-class passengers. • The Titanic was transporting goods across the Atlantic. Twelve cases of ostrich plumes were among the cargo.
