Aims of the workshop • To give you an insight into how your child’s score is calculated and what it means on a scale. • To give you an insight into what your child experiences within the test. • To give you an understanding of some of the more unfamiliar grammar terms (the ones you need support with) and how they are used. • To give you a glossary of terms that pupils should and need to know. • To provide you with examples that can be followed up at home. • To give you tips on how you can support your child.

  3. KS2 SATs Reading This is how the scores are calculated. Thisparticular conversion was for the 2018 paper.

Thisparticular conversion was • for the 2018 paper. • To achieve a scaled score of 100 last • year, a pupil needed to score 38 • out of 70 in the Grammar test (/50) • and the spelling test (/20) combined. • To achieve a scaled score of 110 last year, • a pupil needed to score 56 • out of 70 in the Grammar test (/50) • and the spelling test (/20) combined.   5. Handouts Adverbials of time, manner and place. Prepositions. Root words/word families/prefixes and suffixes. Noun phrases. Semi-colons, brackets, colons, dashes/hyphens. Active and Passive. Staff stations Mr de Wit- Tenses- present perfect/past progressive, etc. Miss Felton- Relative clauses. Miss Davies- Types of conjunctions- co-ordinating and subordinating. Mr Deas- Determiners (same as articles). Mrs Sohal- difference between a phrase and a clause.

  6. What you can do to help • Support them with revision guide homework. • Support them with SPAG.com tasks. • Support them in the revision of their spelling rules covered this year. • Mini tests with an area of grammar as a focus. For example, look at things at home and build word families (e.g. drawer/drawers/drawing/draw/undrawn. Have a back and forth with antonyms- hot/cold and light/heavy, etc.
