  3. What regions are most prone to landslides? • Mountains (Steep Land) • Large amounts of rain • Weak soil • Active faults (Cause earthquakes)

  4. Forest Falls • This place has DFS (Debris Flow Slugs), which is some kind of landslides contained mud sliding down the mountain during rainfalls. • DFS can reached 70 mph and lasted 1 to 2 minutes.

  6. What can be done to reduce the hazard of landslides? Landslides Cannot be predicted, so we can only help prevent them by… • Regrading • Replace weak soil with stronger soil • Pier • Deep poles drilled below house to stabilize • Tree/ Plants • Roots stabilize ground & remove water

  7. What can be done to reduce the hazard of landslide? • Add material to toes • To stop the movement • Drains • Removes surface water from rainfall (less muddy) • Wells • To draw water from underground • Building Codes (construction) • Geologists inform the government where unstable land is
