  • For every person killed by a poisonous snake, 10 are killed by a poisonous scorpion.
  • In Mexico, 1000 deaths from scorpion stings occur per year.
  • In the U.S., only 4 deaths in 11 years have occurred result of scorpion sting.
  • Out of 1500 scorpion species, 50 are dangerous to humans.

  • Put a small ice bag or cold washcloth on the sting.
  • Try not to move the are where you were bitten, and if on arm or leg raise it to the level of the heart.
  • GO TO EMERGENCY ROOM RIGHT AWAY!
  • Try to take scorpion with you for identification.

  • Use traps indoors.
  • Wear gloves or heavy clothing around areas where scorpions may be.
  • Inspect and shake outdoor clothing and shoes before putting them on.
  • Do not go barefoot or sandals around areas where scorpions may be.
