  1. Welcome to Family Friday December 7, 2012

  2. Little Italy Tree Lighting The Little Italy Association presents the kick-off to its annual holiday shopping, dining and pampering season with the annual Little Italy Tree Lighting & Christmas Village held at the Piazza Natale on the corner of W. Date & India Streets from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on the first Saturday in December.

  3. Las Posadas • Come join us on Wednesday, December 19 • 5:00 pm – 6:30pm at Washington Elementary School for “Las Posadas.” • ELAC will be selling Tamales, Champurada, Banuelos,Cake and Coffee. • This year the following groups will perform: • Kindergarten classes • 1st Grade Classes • Italian Classes • Spanish Classes • Soaring Eagles Singers • Please Note: This event is for children who attend Washington Elementary School. No children over the age of 11 years.

  4. “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” 2nd Grade Classes will attend “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” Today, December 7, 2012. Compliments of Mrs. George.

  5. Chorus Classes Currently, all Kindergarten and 1st Grade Classes receive weekly chorus instruction from Mrs. Annie Welsh. Furthermore, talented students were selected for our Soaring Eagles Singers. This group will be performing at selected school events and also various community events.

  6. Ballet Classes Ballet Classes are provided by the San Diego Ballet Company. They are now in full swing and we are proud to say all 2nd Grade Classes are participating weekly. The entire 2nd Grade will be attending the San Diego’s Ballet’s Nutcracker Suite on Friday, December 21.

  7. New Children’s Museum In January and February ALL 3rd Grade Classes will experience the New Children’s Museum. The New Children's Museum is a new model of children's museum, whose mission is to stimulate imagination, creativity and critical thinking in children and families. Children are empowered to think, play and create through participatory exhibitions, engaging art-making activities, captivating artistic performances, and in-depth educational opportunities.

  8. ArtReach & Ballroom Dancing The 4th and 5th Grade Classes are now fully immersed in Art Reach (every 4-6 weeks) and Ballroom Dancing (weekly). Ballroom Dancing had a group of 4th and 5th grade dance partners perform at the Little Italy Tree Lighting Ceremony again this year. The group will also be performing throughout the year at various school and community events, including the Posadas this December 19th.

  9. Daily 40 Minute Language Classes • Daily language classes began on November 26th . The classes are for 40 minutes every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday until April 12, 2013. • All students at reading grade level and above, attend a Spanish or Italian Class. • All students who need extra reading support receive small group specialized reading and writing instruction at the student’s ability level. • All students who are English Learners attend ELD Classes at their English Proficiency Level. (Beginning, Early Intermediate, Intermediate, Early Advanced and Advanced) as determined by the CELDT.

  10. ELST Provides Extra Reading Classes for ELs. Our English learners will begin receiving extra reading classes for specialized support in phonics and reading. This will be taught by Maria Patton, ELST, after lunch Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

  11. Christina Fontanelli The Italian Class will be with Christina Fontanelli on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 3pm.
