Mechanical Level - Now What? Sarah Scott Coordinator of Professional Learning, MI Excel Statewide Field Team
Session Description We have adopted the Blueprint so now what? In this session we will take a closer look at drivers and district systems installed in mechanical level. Participants will begin with the end in mind as we explore District Network, Communications Driver System, Problem-Solving Driver System and visions for Instructional Infrastructure, Intense Student Support Network and Talent Management. We will explore Installation Assessment Tools and make connections to the Fidelity Appraisal. This session will consist of lecture for learning and time to collaborate while planning forward.
Session Outcomes Participants will: • Develop understanding of how and why Mechanical Level is installed. • Explore tools to monitor and adjust the work.
Mechanical Level Installation During this phase, the district launches the installation of the Blueprint by establishing the urgency for district reconfiguration and by building the drivers, two driver systems, and the ground floors of the three district systems.
Dramatic Improvement in Student, Teacher, and Leader Performance in a short amount of Time. The Blueprint: Systemic Reconfiguration
Driver: District Network Driver Systems: Communications Driver System Problem-Solving Driver System District Systems: Talent Management: Strategic Placement Instructional Infrastructure: Vision of High-Quality Subject-Specific Instruction Intense Student Support Network: Vision of High-Quality Student Support
Mechanical Level Installation Table Dialogue: • Introduce yourselves and your districts • Where is your district in Mechanical Level Installation? What are you familiar with?
Fidelity Appraisal • The intent of this review is to provide districts with critical information needed to help in their efforts to reconfigure the district in the strongest way possible to realize dramatic improvement in student, teacher, and leader performance in a short amount of time. • In completing this appraisal, the MI Excel team conducts focus group interviews, analyzes Blueprint artifacts, and examines the district’s use of other Blueprint tools to create the systems and drivers.
Identifies each component and criteria for installation. Provides a rating for each criteria and the overall component. Not Yet Begun Somewhat in Place Firmly in Place
Begin with the End-in-Mind • How do we know what full installation really looks like? What does it mean to be firmly in place? • What is involved in full installation? • How might we monitor along the way?
Begin with the End-in-Mind Table Activity: Assign each person at your table an installation component to dig into • District Network • Communications Driver System • Problem-Solving Driver System • Talent Management: Strategic Placement • Instructional Infrastructure: Vision of High-Quality Subject-Specific Instruction • Intense Student Support Network: Vision of High-Quality Student Support
For your specific component read the fidelity appraisal criteria.
Begin with the End-in-Mind Individual Activity: • Use the Evidence of Practice & Installation Observation Tools to dig deeper into your assigned component. Consider: • What does full installation really look like? • What is involved in full installation? What does it mean to be firmly in place? • How might we monitor along the way?
Begin with the End-in-Mind Table Activity: Share Out • What is a key idea about installing your component? • What questions might you still have?
Transferring Your Learning • The tools and resources you used to dig deeper are available for EACH Blueprint component at EVERY level of installation. • Blueprint Institute Sessions were also developed to go deeper into the application of each component. • Blueprint facilitators are a great resource for questions and clarifications. • Immediate question? Post it in the APP.
