  1. Status of MB Data Retrieval FIDEL Meeting Nicholas J. Sammut With several contributions from L. Bottura, S. Sanfilippo, L. Deniau, D. Sernelius, C. Yao, A. Basu

  2. Outline • History • Standard Magnetic Measurement problems • Data Analysis Problems • Examples of wrong measurement data • Analysis Procedure • Results Status of MB Data Retrieval

  3. Standard Magnetic Measurements Performed using Rotating coils in SM18 Machine cycle Loadline • Decay - Hysteresis loop Status of MB Data Retrieval

  4. History 2002 to 2005 – Standard Magnetic Measurement Analysis using semi-automatic system (manual and excel macros); data analysis targeted at filling in ID Cards  Focus was mostly on measurements at injection and at nominal current, TF ramp-up, components (integrated and local). 2006 – For FIDEL, full cycle verification required to enable modelling. This prompted a re-iteration of all the analysis of MB data set. Hurdle - Previous problems encountered in manual data analysis were not logged. - Many magnet specific problems and different combinations of hardware/analysis problems to be taken into account - Some cycles were hard to identify - Limited time and resources Solution -To increase efficiency, full automatic MB data analysis system designed, tested and implemented. Includes a logging system and a quick viewer. Allows data analysis and retrieval in one-shot. Status of MB Data Retrieval

  5. Standard Magnetic Measurement Problems • Mechanical Problems: broken shaft • Electrical Problems: damaged ribbon cable, damaged connection • Electronic Problems: amplifier drift, amplifier gain, over-range • Measurement Set-up Error: wrong coil calibration factors • Operation error: error in cycle settings, error in data entry Status of MB Data Retrieval

  6. Data Analysis Problems • High deviation (larger than 6 units) of main field (at least one sector) compared to integrated – 80% • Erroneous data from connection of sector of a shaft – 10% • Erroneous data from inverted connection of sector – 5% • Incomplete measurement – 5% • Gain Shift in TF – 35% • Problems with gain at 1500, 2000A – 30% • Wrong Data entry by operator (temperature, magnet name) – 4% Status of MB Data Retrieval

  7. Example of Problems Shift in TF due to Gain Problem Status of MB Data Retrieval

  8. Example of Problems Incomplete cycle and erroneous points during measurement Status of MB Data Retrieval

  9. Analysis Procedure • Identify correct cycle • Extract Data • Identify erroneous sectors (delete or correct) • Fill in log file • Extract Data • Identify wrong points during cycle (delete or correct) • Extract data • Fill in Log file • Check all hysteresis cycles and compare to the whole population • Final cross check correct cycle with semiautomatic results (still to be done) Status of MB Data Retrieval

  10. Results Cleaned Data - Loadline: 417 apertures - Machine Cycle: 406 apertures • Still to do: • Machine Cycle final check and correction • Apply shifts to the TF gains for currents lower than 5000A (35%) • Identify correct coil configuration of 4 magnets • Final cross check between old semi-automatic results and fully automatic results Ready end of Feb Depending on number of problems encountered Possibly: end of March Status of MB Data Retrieval
