This activity involves creating a KWL chart to explore physical properties of matter, including states of matter, objects' properties, and examples of physical properties. Discover what matter is, its states (solid, liquid, gas), and how physical properties can be observed through senses. Engage in interactive learning by documenting what you know, wonder, and learn about matter's characteristics.

KWL: Physical Properties • Create a KWL chart to describe what you Know, what you Wonder or want to know about physical properties in the first two columns. You will come back and complete the last column by filling in what you Learned after the activity. What I Learned What I Wonder What I Know
What is matter? • Matter is anything that: • has mass • takes up space
Everything is made of matter. Can you think of some examples of matter?
There are 3 states of matter. Solid Liquid Gas
Solid • Easy to see • Definite shape. • Many different colors
Liquid • Take the shape of their container • no definite shape • flow easily • Many different colors
Gas • Gasses are colorless and odorless. • They take the shape of the container – no definite shape
Properties of Matter Use 5 senses to describe an object’s properties. Smell See Sound Touch Taste
Examples of Physical Properties Sweet odor Magnetic Able to melt Cool to the touch The size of a pea Lime green 6 cm in length
Some objects change state Ex: Chocolate – Solid to liquid Can you think of two more objects that change state?
**Don’t write this. Let’s practice! What are the physical properties?
