  3. About Mrs. Tacheron! -This is my second year teaching at Lunsford -I was born in Arizona and raised in New York -I lived in Spain for three years before moving to Virginia

  5. Goals: • To encourage students to be lifelong readers • To develop critical reading skills Means: • Book Clubs • Mentor Texts • Independent Reading • One-on-One Conferences

  6. Quarter 1 • Building Fluency: Writing Notebooks • Editing: Reader Response Journals • Analytical Writing: Theme • Vocabulary • Two Units per Quarter • Always in Google Classroom • Understanding—not just memorization

  7. Independent Reading: 30 Minutes Every Day What is not completed in class is to be completed at home. Independent Reading is always encouraged.

  8. Re-Teaching • Students learn at different rates. Our goal as teachers is to make sure that each student masters the skills, even if it takes more than one assessment. • 69% or lower on summative assessment: Teacher Directed Reassessment Students are required to attend a re-teach session and re-take.

  9. a) If a student scores an 86% or above on a summative assessment, they are not eligible for a retake. They have shown they understand the content substantially and can move onto the next unit. b) If a student scores between a 70%-85% on a summative, they are eligible for a retake, but the highest they can score on the new summative is an 85%. Optional retakes must be initiated by the student and follow the teacher’s directions for completing a re-teaching session and scheduling the new assessment. Only one retake per summative will be allowed. Reteach/Retest con’t.

  10. Projects & Essays Students will receive teacher feedback throughout the drafting process regarding necessary revisions. Students are expected to incorporate the revisions into their final projects and essays. Therefore, final products that earn a grade 70 or above are not eligible for retakes.

  13. Two last things… • Check out your child’s work throughout the room and outside in the hallway! • “I AM” Poems were created at the beginning of the school year to get to know each other. • Also, feel free to leave a note on the white board for your kiddo to see next class!
